Just Released! Introduction to Treatment Models and Engagement Online Course
This course is available at no cost to the general public and provides foundational level information about treatment models and engagement strategies that support individuals who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness who have serious mental illness, serious emotional disturbance, substance use disorders, or co-occurring disorders.
Key Topics in the Course:
- Health disparities and risk factors for homelessness
- Treatment principles, including harm reduction and trauma-informed care
- Treatment models and care coordination
- Treatment-focused engagement and motivational interviewing
This course consists of four chapters, each of which has a series of articles and opportunities to apply knowledge through journaling and quizzes. We estimate that it will take approximately 3 hours to complete the course and the course has been accredited for 3 CEUs by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). Participants can work at their own pace, starting and stopping as they wish.
NEW Resource: Funding Supportive Housing Services for People with Behavioral Health Needs: Federal Resources
This new resource highlights how behavioral health and homeless service systems can familiarize themselves with federal funding resources available through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to improve access to the full array of housing-related services and supports.
NEW Resource: Whole-Person Care for Individuals Experiencing Homelessness and Opioid Use Disorder Toolkit: Part 2.
This toolkit expands upon Part 1 (released August 2021) and covers a recovery-oriented framework for OUD treatment, community-level coordination, and supporting housing stability.

This webinar will offer practical information about key federal resources available through Medicaid and SAMHSA that can be used to pay for many of these supportive housing services. Presenters will discuss tips for identifying available funding and strategies for partnerships to secure Medicaid and SAMHSA funding.
